Girl wearing a traffic cone

I wanted to try something different with this. I’m known for bold, high contrast, bright, rich images but over the past few months I’ve been feeling like my processing has become stale. I felt that I could only appreciate a photo with the contrast whacked up. To me that seemed wrong. So this one I’ve reduced the contrast in Lightroom by -50 and not increased the blacks as I normally would. You know what, I love it.

  1. I haven’t been here for a long time, but this was a real surprise after your HDR images. Very unexpected, but refreshing, and I like it too.

  2. I like it! Makes a nice change (the style I mean, not the fact that I like it)!

  3. Good! You were right!

  4. This is my first comment here despite I’ve been following your blog for a while, and I must say that I enjoy every photo of yours, this too. The knowledge lies in the change. We’ll keep enjoying your work.

  5. I like it. It is like the photos I took last weekend on the waterfront looking toward NYC. It was very low contrast due to the hazy conditions last weekend. My instincts were to bump up the blacks and contrast a bit but now seeing this makes me rethink that plan.

I must say I really like this Pete, some times I get a little bit lost in your processing when viewing your blog and I do not really appreciate the content of the image.

The processing here is spot on and really works, top notch mate.

  7. I like this too. I have a Lightroom preset that kind of does this and I have to stop myself from over using it. I’m not going to ask why the girl was walking down the street with a traffic cone on her head. 🙂
