I spent most of last night trying to get a good self portrait shot with a lamp. Its very tricky. Am I in focus, in the frame, does this work? I tried with my 24-70 but I couldn’t get it far enough away from me to focus, at arms length that is. The 10-20 was interesting, and we’ll leave it at that 😀 The 50mm was the best, but I was just a bit too close hand held. So I put it on the desk and tried some shots. The glitch is that after each shot you check how it came out and of course if it worked you’ll never get the same position again. I should really sort out some tethered shooting program for OSX. Annoyingly for this shot the lens focused on my forehead, not my eyes so they’re just a tiny bit out of focus.

Very brave of you to take a closeup. my wife said you look like someone off the Blair witch project 😉
You have the scary eye look!
