I met Norma at the Remembrance Day service in New Brighton. She was there to pay her respects to members of her family who died during WWI and WWII. Her brother, William Hoyland, died in 1940 and was a member of the RAF. Her husband’s uncle, John Taker, died in France and James Taker died in Gallipoli in 1917. She remembers the bombings in Wallasey during WWII. A bomb exploded quite near her house and she was evacuated to live with her aunt in Banbury.
“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.”
