Amazingly I had never heard of Sacre-Coeur before. My view of Paris, despite loving both Amelie and Angel-a, was quite narrow. They’re some of my favourite films but I try not to watch them so when my girlfriend pointed out that Sacre-Coeur was in Amelie I couldn’t remember it. Its hard to believe I couldn’t remember a building as stunning as this. The Louvre, Notre Dame, and all the classics I remembered but not this. It was quite a shock when she pointed it out from our hotel balcony. Incase you don’t know Sacre-Coeur stands on a hill and can be seen from any high point in Paris. Its a stunning building.
Unfortunately its swamped by people selling cheap beer and keyrings. I’d say about 40% of the people there were selling cheap goods. That puts a real, real downer on the entire experience. They will hound you. The in thing to do here is grab a crepe, bottle of wine and watch dusk over Paris. Its stunning. You’ve got this huge church behind you and a view over Paris in front. One by one the lights of the city come on and I can’t think of a better way to be introduced to the city. This is where we went on our first night there.
I have also opened the Montmartre gallery on my new portfolio site.
